Hiroshima is home to the memorial to Sadako Sasaki - a Japanese girl who developed leukemia as a result of the atomic bombings. An ancient Japanese story promises that anyone who folds a thousand origami cranes will be granted a wish by a crane. Sadako finished this task but still died a few months later. Now children all over the world continue to make cranes in memory of her and send them to this memorial. All profits go to Earthquake and Tsunami Relief for Japan. All photos taken by me in Japan 2007-2009.
