So what or who are Orang Utan Comics? Well, to cut a long story short, we make comics…that generally aren’t actually about orang utans. What we are is one of the UK’s leading independent comics publishers. Founded in 2007 by Ian Sharman and Peter Rogers, we hit the UK comics scene running with the launch of Eleventh Hour, an anthology title which picked up an Eagle Award nomination for Favourite Black & White British Comic Book after its initial two issues. Since then we’ve gone on to release several popular series, including Alpha Gods, FTL, Particle Fiction, Shrapnel: Case Files and the Comixology Comixologist’s Choice Award winning Hypergirl. We’ve also worked with Matt Dyson and Mike Georgiou to produce trade paperback collections of their comics, Moo & Keo and Elemental Micah. We work closely with AAM/Markosia, who handle most of our digital distribution, and we have also developed a number of titles that have been or will be published by them, including Eleventh Hour, Hero: 9 to 5, Hypergirl and the forthcoming Intergalactic Adventures of Zakk Ridley and Shrapnel: Case Files. Are we a publisher? A studio? A collective? If we’ve learned anything over the years it’s not to define ourselves. We are what we need to be.
